Preventative Health Care & Vaccinations
Comprehensive Physical Examination
During a comprehensive physical examination, our
doctors assess the following on your pet: cardiovascular system,
respiratory system, gastrointestinal system, urinary and
reproductive systems, central nervous system, eyes, ears, skin,
coat, mouth, teeth, gums, and weight. In addition to routine
examinations, our doctors perform extended examinations as well as
exotic pet examinations and treatment. We strongly recommend an
examination every six months so that if your pet does have health
problems, they can be detected and treated early.
Check out our
Health Exam article.
Vaccinations
We use only the best, well-tested vaccines and
protocols for the protection of your pet. Regular vaccination of
your pet is one of the easiest things you can do to help prevent
disease.
Occult Heartworm
Test
This is an
annual blood test that checks for the presence of heartworms. We
recommend that all dogs, cats and ferrets receive heartworm
prevention year-round.
Fecal Exam
This exam is performed to detect specific internal
parasites. Certain parasites can infect you and your family.
Urinalysis
This test diagnoses urinary system disease,
metabolic disease and other disorders. Early kidney disease can be
detected with this test prior to your pet having any clinical
signs of disease. A change in diet is often all that is needed to
stop or slow down several health problems.
Nutrition
We offer Royal Canin
Diets which
contain high-quality usable protein. Royal
Canin products are specially
formulated for the individual needs of each pet. We also have
prescription diets for pets with cardiac, renal, allergic,
nutritional, skin, and intestinal diseases.
These diets contain all natural preservatives. They
also contain fatty acids which are important for healthy skin.
Check out our article on “Why
should I feed my pet a premium food diet when I can buy much
cheaper food elsewhere?”
Bloodwork
Blood is
drawn from your pet and analyzed to check your pet’s internal
functions in a non-invasive manner. It can alert us to hidden
problems that your pet may have. Most blood work is performed
in-hospital, but some tests may be performed at an outside
laboratory. We require pre-anesthetic bloodwork on all pets five
years old and older. In addition, semi-annual (or no less than
annual) bloodwork is strongly recommended for our senior pets
seven years old and older.
See Profile #2 under our In-House Lab section.
