Becoming a Veterinary Assistant

Have you ever thought about becoming a Veterinary Assistant but didn’t know how to go about becoming one?

ACC GraduatesAlvin Community College has a Veterinary Assistant, Continuing Education Program that meets in class on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. This is a 120 hour course that will prepare you for the duties of a veterinary assistant. These students gain a great deal of information during their studies, including animal husbandry, proper sterilization techniques for lab and surgical equipment, preparing samples for lab examination, and being an integral part of the veterinary health care team.

The program instructor is none other than our own Veterinary Technician, Christina Strickland. Claws & Paws Veterinary Hospital is proud to support the local community in preparing students to enter the veterinary field.

The program is very intensive and students are required to complete volunteer hours at an animal shelter and an externship at a local veterinary practice. We are proud of Christina and know that she will continue to be very successful with this program.

If you are interested in becoming a Veterinary Assistant, you can visit the Alvin Community College website for additional information. Classes are forming now for the new semester, which begin October 15, 2013.
