Low-Stress Veterinary Visits for Cats
Did you know that more than half of U.S cats are not receiving regular veterinary care? In a study done by the American Association of Feline Practitioners, fifty-eight percent of cat owners reported that their cats hate going to the vet. They fear the cat carrier and being transported in the car, making veterinary visits stressful for both cat and owner.

Because of the anxiety that veterinary visits evoke in both owner and cat, many owners opt to simply skip regular veterinary care. You might think, my cat never even goes outside, he doesn’t need to see the vet! The truth is that cats are excellent at hiding illness, sometimes for years. Early signs of disease can be caught by your veterinarian, often giving patients better outcomes than waiting until symptoms become more obvious.

Here at Claws & Paws Veterinary Hospital, we love our feline patients and we want the best for them. We understand that for many cats, the only time they go into a carrier or in the car is to come to the veterinary hospital. We want to help ease that anxiety and make your cat’s veterinary visit a positive one.

When you call our office to set up an appointment for your cat, let us know that your cat has anxiety about coming to the veterinary hospital. We will prepare a complimentary Low-Stress Veterinary Visit Kit for your cat.
Kits include:

  • Detailed instructions on how to make your cat’s visit a positive one.
  • A Feliway-Classic Pheromone Wipe to help your cat acclimate to the pet carrier. Feline pheromones are a wonderful resource that help to decrease anxiety in many cats.
  • A prescription medication may be recommended for your cat to help further ease anxiety. Sample doses of medication are compounded into a cat treat for easy administration prior to your visit.
  • Upon arrival to our hospital, our staff will provide you with a pheromone impregnated towel to cover your cat’s carrier. This will further reduce anxiety by limiting the sights and sounds that can be stressful to cats.

Please call our office if you have any questions regarding our Low-Stress Veterinary Visit Program or to schedule an appointment for your feline family member.
