We Love Our Clients
We love our patients; all of them. From the ones who are excited to see us, to the ones who just aren’t that into it. We enjoy the relationships we have built with
We enjoy learning about your families, your hobbies and interests. This helps us to build a relationship with you. We love educating new pet owners and seeing their knowledge blossom as they care for their pets. We also enjoy learning from our clients as we educate them.
We have a wonderful client base, with many different people from many different walks of life. We enjoy hearing about your new job, your vacation, your future plans. We love to see pictures of your kids and grandkids, and your other pets.
We enjoy sharing social media sites with you; whether it be important information, fun contests we offer, or even just posting pictures of your babies. We utilize all the social media sites, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Be sure to check us out on all of them.
Our clients are very generous. Anytime we have a drive or an opportunity to help out in our community our clients step right up. This is one of the reasons we enjoy having our client appreciation events; from hot cocoa and pictures with Santa to snow cones in the summertime, we love these opportunities to give back to you.
We have the best clients and patients here at Claws & Paws, and we really do enjoy visiting with you. So, the next time you are in, be sure to say “Hello” and fill us in on what’s going on in your world. From Dr. Wickel and the entire staff, we really care about you and your babies.

Got a Puppy or Kitten for Christmas? Now What?
Julie Wickel, DVM
What to do with those new puppies and kittens that you got for Christmas!
What’s better than finding a new puppy or kitten under the Christmas tree? After playing with your new pet, you may wonder, “What do I do now?” We have answers for you!
When you first get your new baby, you should make an appointment with your veterinarian for an examination to ensure that he or she is completely healthy. During this exam, the Doctor will listen to the heart and lungs, examine the eyes, ears, and skin, palpate the abdomen, etc.
While you are in the room, different topics will be discussed concerning your pet’s health and how to keep your new pet healthy.
New puppies and kittens should be fed puppy/kitten food until they are 9-12 months of age. For large breed dogs, they should be fed puppy food until they are 1 ½ years of age.
Vaccines are usually started at 8-weeks of age and then given every 3-4 weeks until the puppy or kitten is 16-weeks of age. The type of vaccine given depends upon your pet’s lifestyle, age and health.
It is likely that an intestinal parasite exam will also be recommended on the first visit since it is very common for puppies and kittens to have intestinal parasites.
We recommend that you keep your new puppy isolated from other dogs until he or she is fully vaccinated at 16 weeks of age. This means no front yard, walks around the block, park, or PetsMart. No exposure to other puppies (even those also kept up on their vaccines) or strange dogs. Adult dogs 2 years of age and older that are up to date on their vaccines are OK to be around. As for kittens, recommend keeping them indoors until they, too, are fully vaccinated.
You should start your baby, both dogs
